Genetic testing – Memory clinics and the NHS England Genomic Medicine Service

This webinar was led by Dr Nick Bass, Honorary Consultant Psychiatrist, UCL Division of Psychiatry, Tower Hamlets Memory Clinic, East London NHS Foundation Trust.

England’s NHS Genomic Medicine Service (GMS) is working with different medical specialties to integrate genomic testing into routine care. We considered how this applies to the investigation of young onset dementia in memory clinics.

Nick described the North Thames Genomic Medicine Service Alliance transformation project to embed genomic investigation in mental health service provided memory clinics. And went on to discuss implications and initiatives at the national level to promote easy and equity of access to genomic investigations for younger people undergoing dementia assessment.

Nick was joined by Jana Mikova, Clinical Nurse Specialist in Genomic Medicine, North Thames Medicine Service Alliance, Senior Nurse Practitioner, Tower Hamlets Diagnostic Memory Clinic, East London NHS Foundation Trust.

The webinar included an abridged interview with Jessica Harrison whose father has an inherited form of Alzheimer’s disease and has herself undergone genetic testing. You can watch a full-length version of the interview here.
