How can a GP help people with young onset dementia?

A good relationship with a GP and GP practice is key to helping a person with young onset dementia and their family navigate the complex systems and pathways for young onset dementia care.

Our webinar on Wednesday 16th October 2024, will be led by Dr Nerida Burnie, a general practitioner with a special interest in dementia. It will include key points where GPs can help people with young onset dementia including:

  • The challenge of getting a diagnosis
  • What GPs can do to help people and their family’s post-diagnosis
  • How GPs can advocate for change, identify gaps in services and improve the accuracy of prevalence and dementia type data

Dr Burnie will also discuss the challenges within the NHS and the need to recognise the important role GPs can have in supporting people with young onset dementia, and promote and support this relationship.

An interview with a person living with the condition will offer a personal perspective.
