Professor of Dementia Care, Faculty of Dementia Studies, University of Bradford

Jan Oyebode is Professor of Dementia Care at the Centre for Applied Dementia Studies, University of Bradford, having spent her earlier career as a clinical psychologist in the NHS.  Her current research interests focus on relationships, coping with life with dementia, and family caring, including how culture, younger age and type of dementia impact on these.

She leads a research study named DYNAMIC (Social care planning and provision for people with young onset dementia and their families: current practice and resources for improvement) and is contributing to the YOD-CARE study which is taking place in the Netherlands. She was also involved in The Angela Project (improving diagnosis and post-diagnostic support for people with young onset dementia and their supporters) and RHAPSODY (Research to Assess Policies and Strategies for Dementia in the Young).  Jan has written both academic papers and more accessible briefings on young onset and frontotemporal dementia and, with George Rook, has co-edited a forthcoming book ‘Young Onset Dementia Reconsidered: A Solution-Focused Approach’.

Outside work, Jan is a keen photographer, traveller and walker and loves spending time with her family.

Jan leads the Young Dementia Network Research and Evidence workstream.
