Ryan Gray, MSc reviews a recent publication that highlights the meaningful differences in diagnosis, treatment and models of care between young onset dementia and later onset dementia. Five call to action items are detailed that propose solutions and encourage researchers to maintain progress in this field.

Exercise interventions for people with young onset dementia

Dr Ethan Berry’s research assessed the differences between a group of people with young onset dementia and a control group without. It examined body composition, blood pressure, physical fitness, grip strength, lung function, physical activity and ultrasound scans to determine whether people with young onset dementia would have worse scores compared to the control group.

How important is hope to people living with young onset dementia?

Dr Jane Pritchard’s research study examined whether hope was important to younger people living with dementia (those under the age of 65). It aimed to explore what people hoped for, what made people feel hopeful, and less hopeful.
